graphic design | production | digital asset management

I've done a lot. I drove across the country at 18 to start a new life. My first job in California was picking cotton. That taught me what hard work and long days were all about. Then I delivered pizzas. That taught me the ins and outs of the town and how to plan and execute. But I wanted more. I needed more.

Since high school, I always had a love for design. I learned photography. I learned how to run a printing press. I learned how to screen print. I wanted to find a job that would feed that love. Develop it. Nurture it. It started in a small print & copy shop in Visalia. There I broadened my knowledge of the printing press. I worked with the graphic designers. I learned how to cut rubylith, shoot and strip negatives, shoot and paste up photomechanical transfers. The ABCs of graphic design production. I was hooked.

After a couple of years, I moved to Santa Barbara and found work in another small print & copy shop. This was the early 90s and the dawn of the digital age for the print industry.

The shop bought our Apple Macintosh IIci to replace the VariTyper and my love for computers was born. I taught myself Quark, Pagemaker, Photoshop and Illustrator. I learned how to trouble-shoot files. I learned how to fix software and hardware problems. I learned how to problem solve. I learned how to find solutions.

After 14 years, I left the print industry and moved to design full time. My next landing was a publishing house for monthly magazines covering the alternative health care markets. A couple years later found me in the MLM industry, in a graphic design production role creating print materials, packaging and signage. I became a manager and added to the number of hats I wear: IT, photography, digital asset management.

I've always been fascinated by the new. A new piece of technology. A new update to the software I use. A new way of working smarter. I'm curious and always up for a good challenge. I'm a tinkerer and a button pusher. I always want to know why. And I keep going until I find out.
